Good Neighbourhood Project

Between April 2024 and April 2027, we will work alongside residents of Swiss Cottage and South Hampstead to make the neighbourhood a fairer and greener place.

Community-led budgeting

On Hilgrove estate, we are supporting residents to decide how to spend part of their estate budget, £200k over two years. We recruited a Coordinating Group of 10 residents to facilitate the process, from doing outreach to shortlisting ideas.

Past projects

Vacant Spaces

We engaged residents on Hilgrove Estate about bringing a vacant storage unit on the estate into community use. We talked to residents about their hopes and concerns and ran activities to explore different ways the space could be used.

Community Creates

This programme connected local artists, residents and organisations to deliver a series of free arts and theatre workshops and events that the whole community could take part in and enjoy.

Resident action on estates

We employed residents on three estates in North Camden - Hilgrove, Chalcots and Sidney Boyd - to develop community action plans. They organised events, discussions and initiatives to create a better sense of community.

Covid community response

In 2020, we developed an emergency response to meet the needs of local people affected by Covid 19 and lockdown. We recruited and trained 50 volunteers and facilitated online ‘Community Conversations’.

Resident action in temporary accommodation

In 2018, we worked with residents of Englands Lane, a temporary accommodation hostel, to produce a manifesto for change to improve their living conditions. They negotiated with the council, organised social events and developed collective solutions to challenges like laundry .
