Who We Are

North Camden Zone is part of The Winch, a community and children’s charity that’s been at the heart of the North Camden community since 1973.

We believe in the power of community-led change.

We support residents to take the lead in improving their local neighbourhoods. We amplify resident voices, support them to turn their ideas into reality, and champion them to change the wider systems they are a part of.

Our aim is to build local neighbourhoods where:

Our History

In 2011, the Winch took some young people and other local residents to visit youth projects in Harlem, New York. A young man called Milad Golmakani had been stabbed to death in Swiss Cottage and we wanted to research ways in which we could make a bigger impact to prevent youth violence. The lessons we learnt about how we need to shape the structures that govern the daily lives of our local community led to the creation of NCZ.

NCZ formally started in 2015. We have worked closely with hundreds of residents in social and temporary housing in North Camden to drive change.
